YDW 2017
September 29 – October 1, 2017 at Kinhaven Music School, Weston, VT. The 8th annual Youth Dance Weekend.
Talent
Maia McCormick — Calling contras
(Photo from Maia McCormick’s website)
Coming in from New York City, Maia calls and choreographs contras with capital consequences. Previously, she ran the Williams College dance and she serves on CDNY’s Outreach and Retention Committee. She is known for organizing contradance flash mobs.
Dan Blim — Calling English

Punster, musicologist, and master of charm, Dan Blim sweeps the floor and wipes the walls (figuratively) with all manner of English choreographic beasts, some hitherto undiscovered.
Sassafras Stomp — Playing for contras and more

Johanna Davis, Adam Nordell, and John Pranio. Uplifting and soulful music from Maine and Montana. A long-wished-for YDW addition — YDW often conflicted with Maine’s Common Ground Fair, but not this year.
The Ripples — Playing for English and more
Gabrielle Lanza, Kristen Planeaux, Andrew Taylor, and Christopher Wood. From Ohio and Kentucky, The Ripples pair musical variety with a feel-good attitude.
DJ Beats and Tea — Friday night techno contra
Baltimore’s DJ Beats and Tea (MD) wields a custom-programmed DJ setup built around contra dancing, smooth live mixing of the hottest selections of house, trance, techno, and pop music, and a supply of the perfect tea for the occasion.
Committee
Harris Lapiroff, Coral Breuer, Sarah Pilzer, Max Newman, Matt Willner, and Donal Sheets (joined 2017).
