YDW 2020 & 2021 — Cancelled

Youth Dance Weekend 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the only interruption in YDW’s annual run since its founding in 2008.

2020

The committee had spent the fall and winter of 2019–2020 planning for YDW 2020 and welcomed a new committee member before the pandemic began. In a message to the community, they wrote:

“We are cancelling Youth Dance Weekend 2020. The coronavirus pandemic is still rampant in the United States and there is no safe way to gather people for an event.”

The committee considered holding a virtual event but ultimately decided against it given the difficulty of organizing remotely during the crisis.

2021

YDW also did not take place in 2021 as the pandemic continued. The committee reformed with new members and began planning for a return in 2022.

2020 committee: Coral Breuer, Dana Parkinson (new — she had called at YDW 2018), Donal Sheets, Maria Cramer, Max Newman, and Robin Banerji. Harris Lapiroff and Marisa Keller stepped down.

Return in 2022

YDW returned in September 2022 with a brand new committee and new COVID precautions (including rapid testing on arrival and before Saturday evening). See YDW 2022 for the full schedule.
